Week 6 Reflection

February 17 - 22

I'm a little let down with chapter 4. I expected more concrete attention grabbing techniques to be mentioned, if not explored in depth. Instead, a pink boa is quickly followed by a cursory segway into keeping the audience's attention.  I don't know about you, but I think - if you subscribe to the dog and pony show approach to teaching and presenting - there's a lot more to explore in terms of attention grabbers than how you dress. That being said, I'm glad she admitted there was a "fine line" between attracting attention and distracting the audience's attention.

The most beneficial part of the chapter was Mestral's Velcro story and the CHIMES list of techniques for making your "hooks" (it's implied that I think that these are interspersed throughout a presentation) become tomorrow's "loops," i.e. the points/topics/feelings the audience takes away from your presentation.
