Week 13 Reflection
April 14-20
Chapter 11 focuses on delivering a multi sensory experience for your audience. Burmark suggests starting your presentation off with powerful images your audience will connect to and remember later in the presentation. Handcuffs, a witty play on words in the form of a threat, "Copy-Right or Go to Jail" and the song, "You're in the Jail House Now" from Oh Brother Where Art Thou (citation added this round of revisions) playing in the background before the presentation begins...all these appeal to the visual and auditory senses at the very beginning of the presentation.
But what can I do to take advantage of the audience's sense of smell? Well, I had an epiphany, and decided to purchase a Dapper Dan Pomade Prop from a company in Argentina, fill it with Old Spice Spiffy Pomenade, and throughout the presentation, apply the pomade liberally and often in an extended analogy I'll develop and refer to throughout the presentation. The Dapper Dan tin will reference the music from the beginning of the presentation, and between it and the smell of Old Spice wafting throughout the isles as I walk and present, harken back to a simpler, pre-copyright paranoia time. I'll use this sense of nostalgia to engage the audience in what was (in terms of being a man, men's fragrances, and copyright ignorance) and contrast it with what is now (slide 22)...which will culminate in me breaking out a can of Axe body spray and spraying it all over my hair and body as I dramatically throw away my Dapper Dan tin. They will be laughing and likely running away, smelling, seeing, and hearing as I reiterate my main point: we can't deal with copyright law today like we did back in the day.
Maybe this will take things too far...naw, I'll just make sure no one else presents in that same room for the rest of the day!
